Podcasting – show me the money

Whenever I mention that I have an award winning food podcast that has been on the charts, and that I get on average 5,000 listens a day, I always get asked this question next.

“So Ronsley, how do you make money with this? How does this translate to your bottom line?”

Well my young grasshopper, even though I don’t use advertising yet (not through the lack of being contacted), it does more than show up on my bottom line. There are so many advantages for me and my business, which I will get into through this series. For now, you need to know how much money is really available through advertising and how other podcasts are making it happen.

You should check out this article <<<HERE>>> for the details, but the top 20 podcasts at the middle of last year list their incomes. Which start at $3,600 per episode and top out at $50,000 per episode in income.

Here are the top 5:

#5) ESPN: The B.S. Report with Bill Simmons; Revenue: $14,000 per episode; Listeners: 250,000 downloads per episode

#4) The Adam Carolla Show ;Revenue: $14,500 per episode; Listeners: 250,000 downloads per episode

#3) WTF with Marc MaronRevenue: $14,640 per episode ($4320 for the 20 second pre-roll, $6000 for the 60 second mid-roll and $4320 for the 20 second post-roll); Listeners: 250,000 downloads per episode

#2) Shane and FriendsRevenue: $15,250 per episode ($4500 for the 20 second pre-roll, $6250 for the 60 second mid-roll and $4500 for the 20 second post-roll); Listeners: 250,000 downloads per episode

#1) This Week in TechRevenue: $50,000 per episode; Listeners: 500,000 downloads per episode

As for me, I didn’t accept my three offers to advertise on my podcast because they didn’t align with my message on food. Hopefully, I will come across a company who has similar values to mine soon.

If you know of other podcasts that make money, let us know. I would love to interview them.
